Trees and People Poem

$15.00

Please note: This is a fresh run of these poems, which means the colors are going to be slightly different than what is pictured here. Thank you for understanding!

This beautiful poem written by Eric Hollenbeck in 1992 was handprinted on our 1909 pedal-powered Chandler & Price letterpress printer by one of our Blue Ox volunteers, Nanette Corley.

The printing process for this poem took over 60 hours and was done in several steps. First (and the most laborious), putting together the main body of text which contains hundreds of hand-placed letters. Next, Nanette hand carved the linoleum blocks to create the Redwood border and leaf detail. After all of the type is set and the detail plate is complete, the actual printing process is what follows - ink must be put on the rollers, and paper must be cut. The printing process for this poem is three parts; first the Redwood tree border, then the leaf detail, and finishing with the body of text. The rollers must be cleaned each time a new color of ink comes into play. As the ink settles, the rollers get cleaned and a new color gets painted on.

Each piece of paper for this poem is run through our machine a total of 3 times, imagine what it must have been like to make a whole newspaper!

The poem will arrive in a plastic protective sleeve with a cardboard backing.
